Learning and Development (L&D) provides an organization with the most significant competitive advantage over its competitors based on the ability to develop the organization’s talent. To capitalize on this advantage, organizations need to offer employees training that enhances their skills but also improves the overall performance of the organization. The simple truth is that if your leadership or your employees don’t see the value of L&Ds training offering, then training will not be successful, and the organization will struggle to:
“The organizations that will truly excel in the future will be the organizations that discover how to tap people’s commitment and capacity to learn at all levels in an organization.” – Peter Senge
As with Learning Technology, the market is flush with vendors vying for L&D budgets. In the last ten years, there has been significant growth in Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC), which provide large libraries of courses to organizations. The idea behind a MOOC is that the breadth of training offered will meet all the needs of an organization. Unfortunately, the more common outcome is only a small percentage (often less than 10%) of employees access the courses, and of those, very few are completed.
A natural conclusion is that generic content offered by a MOOC could not be as effective as an organization building their training that reflects the need of their business. However, this can be prohibitively expensive. The actual answer falls somewhere in the middle. Generic content is sufficient for some topics, but other topics require development by the organization.
CLO2GO offers support in two areas; content vendor selection and content development. For the content vendor selection, we not only help identify the right content provider/providers, but we also help to map training to skills. This additional step ensures that your employees will see which training courses best apply to their jobs and skills development. If our clients need custom training, we first help our clients choose the best approach (online, in-person, virtual, simulation, etc.) to assess the development effort. Depending on the outcome, we partner with Instructional Designers and Content Creators to complement your organization’s Learning and Development team. Why not call us to find out how we can help?
